SATURDAY JUNE 8TH AT HAND
Unto the people of the Volta Region, most especially the southern part of Volta and precisely Dzodze, the capital city of the Ketu North Municipality, Saturday the 8th day of June will mark the official day to kick start the long awaited “Duamenefa” Regional Tournament 2019.
It would be recalled that the Duamenefa tournament which began in 2017 had attracted the attention of the Regional Directorate of Sports in the year 2018 when 77 football teams from across the length and breadth of the southern Volta and beyond registered to compete in the tournament. The Regional Directorate of Sports then elevated the tournament to “Regional Status”.
This elevation has placed an additional responsibility on the shoulders of the organizers who have succeeded in registering 104 football teams for the tournament this year! Ketaman Emmanuel Evortepe, the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and the Chief Executive Officer of Fafaa 100.3 FM Dzodze and the organizers of the tournament had a media encounter with Hon. Dr. James Klutsey Avedzi, the ranking Member of Parliament for finance and the Member of Parliament for Ketu North, who also doubles as host MP of the tournament. He commended the efforts of the organizers of the tournament and supported the tournament through donations of 1 set of jerseys, 1 football and a cash donation of Ghc 100.00 to representatives of 41 football teams of the Ketu North; participants of the tournament.
In all, Hon. Dr. James Klutsey Avedzi donated a total of 41 sets of jerseys, Ghc 4,100.00 (Four thousand One Hundred Ghana Cedis) and 41 footballs to the 41 teams representing the Ketu North in this year’s tournament.
Hon. Dr. James Klutsey Avedzi also promised to donate part of the MPs common fund to support the foundation towards the success of the 40 days event, which is scheduled to kick start on Saturday the 8th day of June with the grand finale on Saturday the 16th day of November 2019.
Dr. James Klutsey Avedzi also encourages other members of parliament to do their best to support the tournament in line with the recommendation letter from the Regional Directorate of Sports. Dr. James Klutsey Avedzi also made a positive declaration to present the “Duamenefa” Regional Tournament on the floor of parliament to enable his fellow parliamentarians from the Volta Region to discuss the economic benefits to the region, in terms of developing the youths through sports.
The representatives of the 41 football teams who benefited in the MPs donation also praised the efforts of the MP and promised to bring the trophy to the Ketu North.
The tournament will kick start with a curtain raiser of competition between the Society of the Visually Impaired of the Greater Accra Region and Volta Region at the Dzodze – Penyi Senior High School Park at exactly 9 am.
