The distant between life and death could have been split seconds for Mr Shine Dogbey, a native of Whuti in the Anloga District of the Volta Region, saving for the timely intervention of the Duamenefa Foundation.

Shine a 26 year old fisherman was on his way from his fishing expedition at the Keta lagoon, the day was not too productive for Shine, as his catch for the day was sold for a peanut of Ghc 5.00, an amount of money he purposed to use for his evening meal.

According to Shine, when interviewed on the Duamenefa program of Fafaa 100.3 Fm, he claimed that, on his way home, he met one Mr. Tukpi a local dealer in the drug called “Indian hemp”. Mr. Tukpi, was once arrested and sentenced to prison due to illegal trade in drugs, Tukpi accosted Shine on the fateful day and began to rain insults on him, such as, look at this idiot who has a drunkard as a father, why are you looking into my eyes? Shine, in an attempt to rebut the insults ended up incurring the wrath of Mr Tukpi who bath him with an acid and rendered Shine incapacitated instantly.

Kwaku Santos and one Abesah Akpakpavi, of Horsu family house witnessed the horrifying incidence and rushed to report to the assembly member Hon. Julius Amekpor, popularly called USA. Collectively they took hold of Mr. Tukpi, and handed him over to the Ghana Police Service, Anloga. The victim was rushed to the Keta Hospital for treatment and due to the critical condition of the victim; the assemblyman organized a team to solicit voluntary contributions to save the life of the victim. They were able to gather a little, about Ghc 400, which was used to cater for the preliminary request from the medical professionals.

Togbi Kpemini Gawu V, one of the traditional divisional chiefs of Whuti traditional area also paid a sympathetic visit to the victim and supported him to offset part of the medical bills. The health condition of Shine was considered as severely burnt and Shine was booked for an initial surgical operation. It took the interventions of the Duamenefa Foundation to foot the surgical operations. Shine Dogbey was later referred to the Korlebu Teaching Hospital for further specialist attention. The Duamenefa Foundation was at the mercy of Shine Dogbey’s medical bills from the month of January 2019 till now. So far over Ghc 7,000, Seven Thousand Ghana Cedis has been spent to save the life of Mr. Shine Dogbey.

Mr. Tukpi the perpetrator of this heinous crime was arraigned before the Anloga circuit court and was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment with hard labor

Today Shine Dogbey has recovered and ready to join his family to celebrate the yuletide, whiles his periodic medical checkups continues. The chiefs and people of Whuti are full of praise to God for the timely intervention of the Duamenefa Foundation
