An abandoned eight-year-old toilet facility fueling open defecation at Ativuta in the Ketu South municipality of the Volta Region has seen a day light.
Residents said they were upset about the abandonment of the facility, though completed and handed over to the community since January 2017.
The 6-seater facility was built by the former member of Parliament of the area, Hon. Fiffi Fiavia Kwetey, through the MPs common fund in 2015 and left at the mercy of the weather due to some minor works needed to be done.
DURING THE ONGOING WORK
By the timely intervention of Fafaa FM at Dzodze in the Ketu North municipality of the region, all the needed works have been done and the facility is finally open for the public.
Speaking to the host of the Fafaa FM’s Agoo morning show dubbed Agenda 2024, Mr. Barnabas Abass Seidu, Agbota Dogah, the community leader in charge of the project, expresses his gratitude to Fafaa FM 100.3.
“This facility has been here for about eight years without use; if it were not for the timely intervention of Agenda 2024, the toilet will remain the white elephant that it has been for the past eight years,” said Mr. Dogah.
We, the people of Ativuta, are very grateful to you and also appeal to Agenda 2024 that there is a lot to do in Ativuta, he added.
Mr. Dogah used the opportunity to thank the chiefs, opinion leaders, and people of Ativuta for the support of great work done.
“I can’t forget my hardworking assembly member Hon. Jonas Fotor Agbagba and his unit committee members, as well as the community set up to supervise the project.
COMPLETED WORK
I will also use the opportunity to advise all those who will still go on open defecation that we now have public toilets that sell for only GH¢ 0.50p. Open defecation is now in the past, and you will face the laws of this country if you disobey, Mr. Dogah concluded.
The community was able to build a new place for the caretaker of the facility and also provided all the immediate needed items for the running of the toilet, which commences today.
