The leadership of Tegbi community, in the Keta Municipality of the Volta Region, under the authority of Torgbui Gawu V, has chased a self-proclaimed prophet, called, Akora Nyame, leader of the Revelation Power Church, out of the community.
The order follows allegations of fraudulent practices involving the prophet and vulnerable residents.
The action was triggered by a petition from Madam Vicentia Ekuenyedzi, an 81-year-old woman who alleged that Prophet Akora Nyame collected GHC 4,600 from her. The money was reportedly taken under the pretext of healing her and removing a supposed charm the prophet claimed had been buried on her compound.
These allegations were contained in a petition addressed to the Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation, and CEO of Fafaa100.3 Fm, Dzodze, Mr Emmanuel Ketaman Evortepe for investigation and intervention.
The Foundation launched investigations and called the prophet for his side of the story, he responded by telling the host, “ You people are not serious with your life”
Following this development, Duamenefa engaged key stakeholders of the Tegbi community, including Torgbui Gawu V, the Assembly Member Hon. Antonio Shugah, and the Chairman of the Local Council of Churches, Rev. James Adzika. All three leaders condemned the actions of the self-proclaimed prophet, citing concerns over his alleged exploitation of community members and the spreading of questionable teachings on some radio platforms.
Acting on instructions from Torgbui Gawu V, the Tegbi Local Council of Churches issued an official letter directing Prophet Akora Nyame to cease all operations of the Revelation Power Church within the community. The prophet is known to hold services every Tuesday.
During today’s edition of the Duamenefa Programme on Fafaa 100.3 FM, Rev. James Adzika confirmed that Prophet Akora Nyame did not hold his usual Tuesday church service, indicating compliance with the directive.
Mr. Evortepe expressed appreciation for the prompt action taken by the Tegbi community leaders, commending them for protecting the residents. He further advised the public to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to self-proclaimed men of God who may exploit unsuspecting community members.
Torgbui Gawu V and other leaders reassured the public that they will continue monitoring the situation closely. They urged community members to report any suspicious activities by self-proclaimed religious figures and stressed the importance of safeguarding both the elderly and other vulnerable residents from exploitation.
Community leaders reiterated that the enforcement of the ban demonstrates their commitment to safeguarding residents from exploitation and ensuring that religious activities in Tegbi are conducted with integrity.
