The Executive President of the Duamenefa Foundation and CEO of Fafaa 100.3 FM, Mr. Emmanuel Evortepe Ketaman, has issued a stern caution to radio stations, urging them to stop amplifying the voices of self-styled prophets who deceive the public under the guise of spiritual authority.
Mr. Ketaman made the remarks on Thursday during the Duamenefa Programme on Fafaa 100.3 FM. His warning follows a disturbing incident in Tegbi, a community in the Keta Municipality, involving a man claiming to be “Prophet Akora Nyame” of the Power Revelation Church, who has allegedly been defrauding vulnerable residents.
One victim, 81-year-old Madam Vicentia Ekuenyedzi, petitioned the Duamenefa Foundation after the alleged prophet reportedly collected Gh¢4,600 from her, claiming he could heal her and remove supposed charms he said were buried on her compound.
Condemning the actions of such individuals, Mr. Ketaman reminded media practitioners that broadcasting ethics strictly prohibit stations from offering airtime for fraudulent or deceitful activities. He added that such conduct is a clear violation of Ghanaian law. He described as troubling the reports that, even after the intervention of traditional leaders and the Duamenefa Foundation led to the prophet’s expulsion from Tegbi, some radio stations continue to provide him platforms to preach.
Calling the situation “unfortunate and unlawful,” he stressed that radio stations are powerful community instruments and must be used responsibly. He further explained that if a contracted preacher engages in unethical practices, the station has every right, and obligation,to terminate the agreement.
In response to the ongoing concerns, the Duamenefa Foundation has begun engaging Assembly Members in affected communities. Assembly Members in the area where the alleged prophet is believed to have relocated confirmed that they would confer with the Presiding Member to pursue the appropriate legal steps to stop his activities.
Investigations are currently underway, as the self-acclaimed prophet is suspected to be moving from one community to another to continue his operations.
Mr. Ketaman urged the public to remain alert and avoid falling victim to spiritual fraudsters. He reaffirmed that the Duamenefa Foundation, as an NGO, is mandated to help uphold the Constitution and safeguard peace in communities, and will intervene wherever wrongdoing threatens public safety and harmony.
