The Duamenefa Foundation is actively continuing its investigations into the Gblonya family chieftaincy dispute, a case that has attracted growing public interest due to the presence of two individuals claiming the same traditional stool, and the mysterious illness of one of the chiefs, who is reportedly suffering under strange circumstances.
According to the petition and early findings, Mr. Felix Butame, a key spiritual figure in the family, is currently occupying multiple spiritual positions. Some family members and observers are questioning whether the concentration of spiritual authority in his hands could be contributing to the illness of the Torgbui, prompting calls for deeper investigation and reconciliation.
On the Duamenefa Programme, aired on Fafaa 100.3 FM, Mr. George Gblonya, a family member, alleged that Torgbui Dala had instructed three individuals — Madam Dzogbeshi Tetteh (mother of the affected Torgbui), Mr. Felix Butame, and another person — to go to a diviner at Afife for spiritual direction. According to Mr. Gblonya, the diviner revealed that the chieftaincy stool was not in its proper spiritual condition and prescribed herbs and rituals meant to restore order and free the ailing chief.
The diviner reportedly gave the herbs to Mr. Butame, who was expected to administer them to the Torgbui and lead reconciliation rituals for the family. However, it was alleged that Mr. Butame failed to carry out these duties and instead performed rituals privately, without involving the family. This led to tensions and an attempt by the family to summon him before traditional rulers at Dagbamate for arbitration.
Mr. Butame was present at the first meeting, but failed to attend the second, raising further concern. Responding to this, the Duamenefa Foundation invited him to clarify the situation.
Mr. Butame denied the allegations, stating that he did not perform any rituals for the stool gods alone, but rather performed a private ritual for his sister in the house, which some misinterpreted as being connected to the chieftaincy stool. Regarding the missed second arbitration meeting, Mr. Butame explained that during the first sitting, the arbitrators themselves told him that the people who had brought him were from the biological side of the family. He was advised that it is traditionally the pathological side who must lead him before the council. Therefore, when no one from the pathological side appeared to take him for the second meeting, he chose not to attend — stating that this was not his decision, but one based on the arbitrators’ instruction.
When asked by Duamenefa investigators whether he is now ready to appear before the traditional rulers for reconciliation, Mr. Butame stated that he is willing and ready.
The primary purpose of Duamenefa Foundation’s intervention in this case is to save the ailing Torgbui from the strange illness through peaceful mediation, truth-finding, and spiritual reconciliation — all in line with the Foundation’s mission to promote peaceful coexistence and social justice in communities.
Meanwhile, serious questions are being raised among members of the Gblonya family and the wider community:
Could the illness of the Torgbui be linked to spiritual imbalance caused by one person occupying multiple roles?
Is the current chieftaincy dispute connected to earlier allegations that the stool gods had chosen another individual to be chief — a decision that was allegedly overturned by a certain faction?
The Duamenefa Foundation, which is a peace-promoting NGO with over 48,658 registered members globally, has pledged to continue its neutral and thorough investigation into the case. The Foundation maintains its commitment to truth, transparency, and restoring peace and order to the Gblonya family.
Further developments will be reported as the investigation progresses.
